A Unique Store for a lovely Country Town
Market
Square Petworth W Sussex
GU28 OAH 01798 34 43 34 artcraftandfabric.com
Not yet visited? Or a regular customer? We’d like to give a
you a warm welcome! Art, Craft
& Fabric of Petworth has been growing from strength to strength over
the last five years – in fact three years ago we moved the Petworth
store into larger premises.
We have stayed firm to our opening principles:
a
local store - next to easy and free car parking
less than a 60 second walk to the town centre
holding a tremendous stock, including all those ‘essentials’
in Art and Craft and Fabric
with many ever-changing, beautiful and unusual items
sourced from across the
plus - we always try to obtain your particular need,
and we’ll be ready with a smile, advice if you need it or
space to browse in peace…
If you enjoy shopping amongst the diversity offered in our lovely country towns and if you’ve not
yet visited,
be prepared to be surprised…
‘…a wonderful shop –
amazing colours…’
‘…stunning glass
bead and embroidered trims – I never realised you could buy this outside
‘…and all the art
products: oils, watercolours, gouache, acrylics, canvases and brushes –
so much here on the doorstep!

Exploring toddlers,
contented children, teens with projects to do, students with course-work,
creative mums, practical dads, mature craftspeople – whatever the skill level,
interest or need, Art Craft & Fabric of Petworth
holds an array of colourful, intriguing and essential products to kick-off a
new craft interest or complete hand-made work.
If
you prefer to spend precious time and
money on your home and family rather than on petrol (ie.,
tax) to identical chainstores without all the items you need… if you like better the distinctive; want to see the latest decorative and useful creative ideas and also, many items you thought you couldn’t get any
more and be responded to by friendly,
experienced staff who will give you the time of day… no, not more expensively – low regular stock
prices and fast decisions on special deals with which the centrally run chains
simply cannot compete:
Come and visit or phone us for
some of the latest special deals…

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always
enjoyed trying out new ways of creating original art. Whether you’re inclined
to more ‘traditional classic’, modern, or perhaps inspired by going with the
flow and want to construct a totally new image or simply embellish an artefact, Art,
Craft & Fabric stocks almost the entire Winsor & Newton paint,
brush and media range.
4 main
ranges of painting media – including both the beautiful Artists’ Watercolours
and student Cotman standard single price Water
Colours, Griffin fast-drying Oils and Galleria acrylics in superb, vivid
colours including gold and silver – we often supply large sizes for the very
keen. Also – many Daler-Rowney and Reeves paints and
products – Gouache sets, tin boxed ‘pans’, gift packs, sets of all media with
canvas, brushes and booklets to get you started.
Never painted oils
on canvas before? Experiment on inexpensive canvas mounted on a board, or ready
to use
canvas stretched over a wooden frame. For the massively expressive, we hold
155cm (62”) wide canvas (buy whatever length you like) for you to paste to
a board, hang or stretch across a wall; can you see the Impressionist water lilies or grand
architectural design dominating that space…?
Perfect papers support quality outcomes.
Watercolour papers
by the [very] large A1 sheet, through A3, A4, A5 and A6 spiral pads, to
postcard size, most in 2
weights. Create an acrylic on specially developed,
treated Galleria paper, and keep the paints you are using from drying out on a
‘wet palette’ with its renewable, water conserving
pad. For the real McKoy, mix watercolours on a cold,
white glazed china tile indented with a series of sloped wells – it slows
evaporation and facilitates washes and the easy creation of a row of colour
tints.
We hold at least 10 grades of sketching
pencils, pastels and charcoal sticks, lino cut printing and support media: art masking
fluid,
Liquin, linseed oil, gum arabic,
gloss and matt varnishes and spray fixes, plus putty and plastic rubbers,
sharpeners,
sponges
and painting knives. You will find mannequins, easels, plastic and wooden
palettes, informative guides and books to
inspire…
Let’s
discuss brushes. For children to paint successfully, scrubby, hard brushes with
blunt cut bristles are the item most likely to discourage them, as the paint
simply won’t go where they want it. Offer a firm, synthetic bristle (like blue
handled Cotman or silver Artisan) with a well-shaped
head that comes to a rounded point. The bristles need to hold the paint, and
bend smoothly against the paper or board. Show them how to clean the brush by
dipping in water (or white spirit for some oils), and gently wipe the brush
head across newspaper until it’s clean. Then, re-shape the bristles, and with a
20cm (8”) strip from the
newspaper, roll the paper around the bristles and stand it handle
down: as the paper dries, it shrinks, pulling the bristles back into their original
shape, ready for the next masterpiece! We have single inexpensive brushes,
economy sets, mid-price and very high quality mortgagable, i.e., types for
every medium at every level.

Tiny paper rosebuds, up to 6 widths of
organza and satin ribbons in over 50 colours; inexpensive hand-milled silk
paper (great for present wrapping too…) loads of motifs, felts, foams, coloured
and printed papers. There are ‘Special Effects’ for every kind of celebration
or anniversary - numbers and letters to personalise… Blank cards and envelopes
– standard, long, plain, edged, with / without apertures. Guaranteed: unique,
personalised outcomes...
The watercolourists amongst you probably apply
your talents to pictures for later framing, but have you tried small, personal
pieces to fit into blank aperture cards for that personal message? There is
nothing quite the same as a card-gift, a hand-made card for a special friend or
the family.

Have you seen the new toddler or
nursery scissors? They don’t poke out eyes and can’t cut skin but
will cut paper and card accurately. Not only are they sprung to re-open
automatically, they will
teach the child to hold scissors correctly whether left or right-handed. Use
them from about 2 years old.

Bespoke crafting of almost anything today is
possible - and how your efforts will be appreciated! Whether your delight is in
card-making, scrap-booking, découpage, (we have loads
of useful ‘blanks’) printing, stamping, collage using textiles, dyeing…
our lovely store has all
the tools and materials that you could wish for.
A unique stock mix extends well beyond that of
other more limited shops, as we have comprehensive paints, alongside textiles
and fabrics to extend your work or pastime, which none of the other craft
suppliers can offer.
Acrylics are amazingly versatile and give a very wide variety of stunning
results: clear depth of colour, fast to dry, adaptable on many surfaces,
delicately thinned for washes and fine detail, satisfyingly gloupy
to layer with a brush or knife… Plenty of the newest media to mix with
acrylics, from iridescent to gritty, colour glazing and painting on textiles,
staining wood to bring out the grain, and not least, painting for school and
student projects

We have
accounts with:
Bergére King Cole Patons Sirdar Stylecraft
and Wendy, including Peter Pan,
Robin and Twilleys

There is a complete wool department, with 2 ply, 3 ply, 4
ply, Double Knit, Sock, Aran, Chunky, Mega Chunky, Ultra Chunky thicknesses in
Pure Wool, Wool Mixes, Acrylic / Acrylic Mixes, Nylon Mixes, Tencel, Cotton / Cotton Mixes, Mohair in stock.
A beautiful range of
colours and types - single colour, blended,
flecked, auto-stripe,
with 10 categories of patterns, and all the
knitting needles and accessories
you might need. If we do not
have the wool you would like
in stock, we are very happy to order
it, even small quantities.

To be gloriously Politically Incorrect, in case you thought we are
just about cute stuff – we’ve provided black Drill for skateboard bags, nails for
upholstery, hard-wall picture hooks, Velcro for horse blankets (and Sea Cadets
– no - we don’t know what it was for either), webbing for chairs, polypropylene
strapping for handles, leashes, tapestries of Concorde and The Silver Ghost…
Canvas for fishing bags, nylon net for
keep-nets, leatherlook for vehicle seats, interior
car roof fabric lining, linen thread for doing strong stuff, serious zips for
tents, covers and gunslips, Tri-Point needles and
rubber ‘grabbers’ to get through thick bits, waistband and collar extenders for
the more robust, nice new elbows for good woollies and sporty jackets and all
sorts of mending tapes, pockets and patches for clothes which develop
mysterious apertures…

We
sell well over 200 fabric and textile
types, and can then multiply that by weights and colours - including
stunning pure silk in over 35 colours, approximately 20 different Ginghams and
checks, a dozen or so very wide fleece fabrics in plains and patterns, gorgeous
100% Cotton prints too numerous to describe except that over 10 metres of shelf
space is devoted to them – for dress,
craft and quilting nothing beats these.

Add to these about 30 colours in Satin, Polycotton,
Lining, Crushed Velvet, Organza, Lycra, Sequins and Nets – every costume textile
you could wish for, (we often dress Knights, Romans, Tudors and Victorians, and
importantly - Shrek, Princesses, fierce bears, Mary,
Joseph, lots of Angels, Kings, Red Indians, Cowboys, Pirates…) and not
forgetting Cow, Dalmation, Sheep, Bunny, Zebra, Lion,
Cheetah, Ladybird and all their friends…

We have lovely furnishing and upholstery
fabrics: heavy Linens, pure, thick Cottons, Silks, hard-wearing mixes in
plains, checks, stripes and florals, in printed and
woven Jacquards and Brocades, in every style from Jacobean, through Regency,
Classic, Art Deco, Fifties, Modern and so on – in loads of colours and designs
– all at sensible prices, mostly in the ranges £9.99 / £11.99 / £13.99 or less.
There is faux-fur in costume colours and designer home styles. Then there’s the
utility fabrics: Table Protect (rubber bonded to wadding), real Deck Chair
Canvas, Baize for card tables, antique bottoms (oops) and box linings,
Moleskin, PVC table covering, Muslins for floaty
stuff and jam… Then there’s still more - all the support
fabrics: interlinings, curtain lining, Bump, Lawn, Poplin, Calico,
Hessian, 6 types of Wadding, Foam…
One of our other unique aspects is that
we will happily sell small quantities at sensible prices –
and you don’t have to spend
upwards of £50 (via mail-order) to avoid an extortionate £4 or £5 for P+P.
Frankly we’d rather you spent the money in the shop than on useless and
unrecoverable costs.
Also, the benefits of being able to see and feel the products,
not to mention an enjoyable browse around the store…
Too far away to visit, disabled or would just prefer items
posted – we can easily arrange this at normal postage cost – we do not add a
handling charge: just ring us on 01798 34 43 34
